Half Dome

In his 1870 Yosemite Guide-Book, California’s leading geologist Josiah Whitney pronounced Half Dome “perfectly inaccessible” and described it as “the only one of all the prominent points about the Yosemite which never has been and never will be trodden by the human foot.”
Well on July 19, 2008, I proved Josiah Whitney wrong. And I’ve got the pictures to prove it.

The diving board on Half Dome, 8,836 feet above sea level, 4,796 feet above the Yosemite valley floor.

17 miles round trip from the trailhead to the summit.

Two sets of cables help hikers to pulls themselves up the final, steepest ascent to the peak.

Mom was having a fit seeing you on the edge of the "diving board". Looks scary, crazy and fun.
