Happy Halloween!

I hope that everyone has a great Halloween. Here are some pictures of me in my Halloween costume from Saturday night. Be sure to eat lots of candy today.

My New Office

Here are some photos of my new office. This is the work station where I'll be spending most of my time (but hopefully not all of it). This is the view from my window looking toward the Pacific (with some window glare):
And, the same view from a slightly different angle:
Come and see it in person.

Mud Run

I ran a 10k on Saturday. Well, really it was more like an obstacle course that happened to be 10 kilometers long. Some friends on mine wanted to run the bi-annual Camp Pendleton Mud Run, but it was sold out. So, instead we signed up for a mud run in Bakersfield called the Volkslauf (I have no idea what that means). The race was billed as a mud run, but I had no idea that that would mean swimming in mud. At certain points were completely submersed in mud and climbing through tunnels halfway filled with muddy water. It was tons of fun.

Unfortunately, of my team of four, only two of us finished the race. Melissa tore her MCL shortly into the race and Brian helped her find medical assistance. Shannon and I were a little bit ahead of them, so we didn’t notice it happen and finished the race. We all had a good time despite the injury, except maybe Melissa. The race even made CNN. Check it out:

Consider yourself tagged....

For those of you who don't spend a lot of time on blogs--tagging is when someone posts questions and answers and then you are required to answer the same questions and post them on your blog. In this case, I think we should all post our answers on this blog. I thought this would be kind of fun. I stole these questions from my sister-in-law's blog. I changed a couple of them but the majority of credit goes to her. Thanks Annie!

1. Three biggest fears? (besides anything bad happening to a family member/child)
1) Heights
2) never getting a full 8 hours of sleep again
3) bugs

2. What's your favorite food? Pizza or chocolate. It's hard to decide. Probably chocolate.
3. Do you creep on stranger's blogs? Yep.
4. If you could go back to be any age for a day, what age would you be and why? 23. Because I was in Marathon shape and so far that's the skinniest I have ever been.
5. Are you a good liar? Yes...okay...No!
6. Do you judge someone when you can tell they've had elective cosmetic surgery? Yes. And I want to know who their surgeon was and how much it cost.
7. If you have children, what's one thing that you always told yourself you'd never do when you had kids? If you don't have children, what's one thing you tell yourself you'll never do. (Psst! You. Yah, you. The one without kids. Guess what? You'll probably do it.) Say "turn off the thousand watt light bulb!" or get really irritated when lights are left on.
8. What's something that totally grosses you out? picking your nose and flicking the boogers. Super yucky!
9. Do you ever delete forwards without reading them? yes
10. Do you ever lie to get out of obligations? Does stretching the truth count?
11. Consider your body weight and your yearly income at their present states. Would you rather be 200 pounds heavier and $200,000 richer or stay at your present states? I already have 20 lbs to lose. I'll stay, thank you!
12. When was the last time you bought a pair of shoes and what were they? a couple of months ago. Sweater clogs. You have to see them. Super comfy. Not so stylish.
13. The Olympics. Take them or leave them? Take 'em.
14. What's your favorite accent? English
15. What's your favorite scent? Hawaii -- and I mean the actual islands.
16. Gum or breath mints? both
17. If you could look like any celebrity, who would it be? Angelina Jolie--after all she got Brad.
18. If you had the chance of looking like said celebrity in exchange for your thumbs would you do it? No. I like my thumbs more than Brad.
19. Do you religiously wear sun screen? Yes.
20. Do you generally trust people/their motives or doubt people/their motives? Doubt
21. Would you describe yourself as a complicated person or is what you see what you get? COMPLICATED.
22. Do you watch what you eat? yes, but that doesn't usually stop me.
23. Do you watch what other people eat? yes
24. Do you judge how other people raise their kids? yes
25. Do you judge people who dress poorly? no
26. Do you judge people who are homely? no
27. Do you judge people who are overweight? no
28. Your interest in politics: High, Medium-High, Medium, Medium-Low, Low, Obsolete? medium
29. Favorite song of all time? Don't really have one.
30. Favorite book of all time? So hard. I couldn't really say...Maybe Anna Karenina. My favorite right now would be the one I just finished: The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls. So good.
31. If you were a hermit, would you shave? Only my pits.
32. If you could shave your head without your significant other throwing a complete hissy, would you? no. Too vain and not radical enough.
33. What was your least favorite age? probably 12 or 13 otherwise known as the chubby years.
34. How many times a day do you check your email? 3 or 4
35. Are you mad at anyone right now? no, well... maybe a little.

What killed the Crocodile Hunter didn't kill me

On Friday, I had the misfortune of getting stung by a sting ray on the bottom of my foot at Huntington Beach.

I was getting of my surfboard into the sand when I felt something stab me in the foot. It hurt really bad---it was the most painful thing I have experienced. I looked down and saw the stinger projecting from my foot. I pulled it out, and blood started squirting out. It still hurt just as bad. I paddled the rest of the way in and hobbled back to my apartment two blocks away. My roommate drove me to the ER.
The nurses said that I was handling the pain pretty well and not screaming and swearing like most people who get stung. The doctor gave me some antibiotics and a tetanus shot after treating the wound.

As you may know, Steve Irwin, the crocodile hunter was killed by a sting ray. He was stung in the heart and died from loss of blood. Luckily, that didn’t happen to me.
